Tatowanie is one of the old Polish terms for tattooing. The word was used by 19th-century travelers, researchers, and ethnographers attempting to describe body-marking practices encountered outside Europe. Today, almost forgotten, it has become the name of a project created by Tomasz Madej, anthropologist and curator at the Museum of Asia and the Pacific in Warsaw.

"We're returning to where it all began.

It was at the Warsaw Tattoo Convention that the idea for workshops first emerged — workshops where people could not only listen about tattooing, but also try to understand it through their own experience. Today, that idea has a name: Tatowanie.

For Sunday, we're preparing two unique workshops open to both younger and older participants. First, there will be a story — about people, cultures, symbols, and the histories written on skin. Then we'll move on to the practical part, where everyone will have the opportunity to try their hand at creating their own tattoo on artificial skin using the hand-poking technique.
